What is a sliding scale?
The basic economic concept of sliding scale is: people pay what they are honestly able.
Those with access to more resources pay more, thereby providing a cushion for those with less access to pay less, which provides a sustainable economic underpinning for the massage therapist.
At JF Bodywork, rather than having a sliding scale, I treat tips as payment as a higher tier above my set price. I use tip money to subsidize offering massage sessions that are “pay what you can”
Pay-what-you-can sessions help to increase financial accessibility of massage therapy to accommodate a variety of incomes & reaffirm my commitment that all bodies deserve affirming and accessible bodywork.
